Christian Dior ‘J’ADIOR’ kitten heel pumps
Upon writing this, Google proved something that I already knew - The Dior ‘J’ADIOR’ slingbacks are undoubtedly the most sought after shoes of the season. Maria Grazia Chiuri's runway debut for Dior was a celebration of feminism, being the first female designer to head up the house in it’s 70 year history. Together with slogan tees and tutu skirts, there was a perfect, minimal shoe that has managed to achieve itself a cult status after only being on the shop shelves for a month.
It’s been pure logomania since the SS17 of Dior started dropping into stores last month. From necklaces and bags, all the way to down to the ankles, J’ADIOR was stamped throughout the collection in true 90’s fashion. While I am still unsure of the bags, I knew the shoes had to be mine as soon as I saw them go down the runway. The simple, easily approachable style has walked itself into the heart of every fashion insider with it’s retro reference, a lot of women are desperate for practical shoes that can actually be worn. So here we have it! It’s not the first time my heart skips a beat for the quirky kitten heel, but this season things got serious as it was the preferred shape with everyone from Balenciaga to Gucci.
As you know, I am a sucker for pointy black pumps and when I can have them with a fresh but oh so classic twist, I’ll be there first one in the line. The key is to style these very casual, they will be best friends with you jeans and any modern white shirt alike. In true Carrie Bradshaw spirit, the white ribbon brings a perfect balance to the black patent toe, which is the reason why I insisted on the patent black version over the equally famous ribbed fabric. The catch is in the heel, I am not the one to usually prefer a kitten heel over a higher version but the shape of the heel is unusual and exciting - something that is sadly slightly lost in the higher version.
Such a contrast to the previous Dior pair I wrote about, these slingbacks are at the moment my most comfortable pair. The patent toe was a little bit hards in the beginning (having blisters on the top of my toes is new even to me, but a small price to pay for this gorgeous pair)
These shoes deserve all the ongoing hype and do perform like a dream. The soft fabric ribbon is stiff enough to hug your heel but brings an amazing contrast to the pointy toe.
Purchase price: £650 in Dior, Selfridges, February 2017.
These shoes come in three heights, flats, kitten and a high heel. Lord only knows why I preferred the kitten over the higher heel, but there is something so interesting about the lower version. The colours are black, beige and white in a patent finish, as well as a black ribbed technical fabric that is completing with the patent ones as the most popular take. The heeled shoes all retail for £650, while the flats can be yours for £580. The shoes, are only available in Dior stores, so shop instead my currently favourite kitten heels below.
Sizing: A patent pointy toe means that this is not the shoe for every type of feet, sorry! But if you are one of the lucky ones, these shoe run true to size.
