Not just for dancers – high-fashion at-home shoes with a touch of elegance.

Noughties favourite the ballet flat has returned to the fashion stage for spring 2021. But this time, it’s more Prada than prima donna. Circa 2005, the dancing shoe was a wardrobe signature for the likes of Sienna Miller and Kate Moss – worn with skinny denim and button-down shirts. Now, we’re pairing them with silk slip skirts, boyfriend jeans and tailored trousers. They look as good slung on with cashmere sweats as they do on our few expeditions out. No coincidence, then, that a year of lockdown has seen them surge in popularity.
You don’t have to be a dancer (or a supermodel) to appreciate the new generation of this little pump. Look to Porte and Paire, Miu Miu and Gianvito Rossi for feminine designs laced with shoellery, or try Prada, The Row and Bottega Veneta for a grown-up take on the ballet trend. So en pointe.
