WORDS BY FLORENCE TROTT
A hand-picked selection of the best new-in styles for a bright and stylish SS21.
For spring 2021, we predict a fashion divide, with most of us falling firmly into one of two camps. Those who are wedded to leggings, sweats and comfy slides, and those who can’t wait to throw on a minidress with a pair of 6 inch Manolos. Whether you’ve fully converted to slippers or can’t wait to strut your stuff in heels, the SS collections are full of inspiring, mood-boosting shoes that are sure to put a spring in your step (excuse the pun). Here are ten of the shoes to watch (and add to cart) this season.
Sick of fluffy slides but not ready to brave stilettoes? Prada’s logo slingbacks are the gateway shoe for those wanting to shed the at-home uniform of 2020. The label’s distinct brand of minimalist cool and sophistication plays out neatly in these optic white kitten heels. Adding to the top of our spring wishlists nowwwww.
THE HEELED LOAFERS
Olive green Spanish leather, a chunky block heel, artisanal stitching and gold-toned shoellery. What’s not to like? We’re a little bit in love with the grown-up ‘90s vibe of JW Anderson’s heeled loafers.
THE MESH PUMPS
Bottega Veneta does it again. There isn’t a single shoe we don’t want from the pre and SS collections, but these mesh wraparound pumps might be our favourites. Closely followed by the pink raffia mules and chain leather sandals, of course. What better way to step into spring than in bright green heels? Maybe paired with a bright white pant suit? Fresh and zingy, just the way we like it.
Loafers were the silent heroes of many a sad lockdown day. Comfortable, but dressy enough to give us a bit of attitude when we needed it. Bottega Veneta’s refined low-heeled Madame loafers will give your everyday wardrobe a touch of ladylike polish – locked down or not.
THE RUBBER BOOT
Spring boots are more important than ever now that a significant chunk of social occasions take place al fresco. Fashion continues to adapt to our needs, and the AW rubber trend is set to flourish this spring. You’ll be prepared for whatever the weather might throw at you in Ganni’s coveted pair of wellington-inspired ankle boots that has finally been restocked around the web.
THE EMBELLISHED SANDALS
It’s as if JW Anderson owns the key to our hearts. And the key to our hearts is an open-toe mule with an oversized circle of crystals and spool heel. *Sigh.
THE STRUCTURAL HEEL
Jacquemus sandals were made for holidays. The minimalist aesthetic and structural heel are off-set with a natural canvas sole and delicate wraparound straps. Come spring, we’ll be wearing ours to the nearest lavender field to frolic in the sunshine with reckless abandon.
After a year of trying to find the joy of dressing up at home, we have a whole new appreciation of pretty flats, especially the comfortable kind. Valentino’s reworked rockstudds are bag bigger than ever and we are especially fond of the these fancy slippers.
THE MINIMALISTIC SANDALS
These are the sort of shoes you want to wear on a hot summer’s evening in the Med. Nibbling on olives and watching the waves. Preferably with a gaggle of girlfriends as you all get tipsy on sunshine and Aperol. Paired with a pistachio ice-cream coloured slip dress and gold jewellery that sets of your tan. SOON.
