Amina Muaddi is debuting her label’s first collaboration – and it’s not with another luxury house or a fellow young designer. Always one to think beyond convention, Muaddi joined forces with AWGE, rap star A$AP Rocky’s creative collective.

What exactly is AWGE you may ask? It’s a creative collective-cum-agency which works with artists like Playboi Carti and A$AP Nast and its range of work can vary from music, videos and merchandise. Now it will add women’s luxury shoes to its resumé – definitely a big jump from their usual merch of hoodies and T-shirts.

The collaboration includes a new version of the Amina Muaddi high-demand Begum pump updated with a bejewelled butterfly embellishment; some fierce sandals featuring crystal laces running all the way up to the thighs; and a reimagined version of the Lupita mule with a triangular toe and sparkly chunky chain featuring an ‘AWGE’ charm hanging from it.

There’s also hoops, chain necklaces and rainbow-hued sunglass chains – yes, those come bejewelled too – following on from Muaddi’s foray into new categories earlier this year. She launched her series of ‘Amini’ evening bags and statement earrings, shaped like the signature crystal brooch that features on the original Begum pumps.

The collaboration, which launched today, was teased with a short Instagram clip featuring Muaddi’s longtime friend and muse Tina Kunakey, wearing the new pieces while smoking and sporting a grill – in honor of A$AP Rocky.

It’s definitely one to go down in the books: It’s not every day that you see a female high-fashion designer get involved with one of the most famous rap stars in the world, and marry sexy heels, sparkly butterflies and luxury fashion with the very masculine world of rap.

Muaddi has defied expectations all along this year, with her shoe drops selling out even if women were on lockdown and had nowhere to go; and her collaboration with Rihanna’s Fenty creating equal excitement.
