WORDS BY FLORENCE TROTT
These days, comfort is king. Cue a slew of stylish mini heels, from block to kitten, by Bottega Veneta, Prada and The Attico.
Size isn’t everything. Here to prove it are a host of small-heeled shoes that are big on style (and comfort). If, after a year indoors wearing nothing but grey marl and cashmere, a stiletto seems like a step too far, a small heel might be the perfect gateway shoe to out-out dressing again.
Historically, the micro-heel has split opinion. Viewed by some as girlish or prissy, they’re an in-between shoe that arguably lacks the sex-appeal and sophistication of a stiletto. We think it’s all in the styling, and influential people on the fashion circuit clearly agree – Kendall Jenner and The Olsen Twins have all been spotted in a pair of diminutive heels. The trick is to contrast their conservative design with unexpected pieces – think raw-edged denim, ‘80s silhouettes and wide-legged, tailored trousers. Don’t be afraid to bare some skin.
It’s all about proportions. Look to the Row for sleek, minimalist styles, Manolo Blahnik for timeless (but modern) classics and The Attico for playfully decadent party shoes. If Prada can’t tempt you into a pair of kitten heels, then no one can.
