For unusual, one-of-a-kind shoe designs that no one else in the room is wearing, up-and-coming designer Amy Crookes is the new name to know. A graduate at Parsons School of Design, Amy founded her label in 2018 in New York and is now quickly standing out in the shoe world for her exploration of unconventional materials and bright, kaleidoscopic patterns.

Her shoes are made of stretchy, shirring fabrics rather than leather – which makes for more sustainable products and attention-grabbing looks that break with tradition. Everything from thigh-high boots to heeled ankle boots and pumps are rendered in shirring and made even more upbeat with ruffled trims, pop colours or abstract floral prints.

Her Victorine thigh-high boots – named after Edouart Manet’s muse and featuring a tiger-printed smock fabric – make for the ultimate statement.

“This all started from stretching a piece of fabric over my leg and thinking how sexy it looked,” said the designer, who first started off with ready-to-wear before realizing her flair for designing unique footwear.

The brand has recently made its debut on Browns, where the buyers were quickly drawn to the mischievous, individualistic character of Amy’s shoe designs. “Amy Crookes makes the type of footwear that looks best when getting up to no good,” says the Browns team.

Instagram is the best way to get to know the brand a little better: You can get up-close-and-personal with the shoes as Amy shares many unfiltered, raw close-ups from her studio. She also shows parts of her creative process, with snaps of the hand drawings and paintings that she turns into prints, or the latest season moodboards, filled with bright prints, charming shoe illustrations and fabric swatches.
