A force to be reckoned with in the industry, Aurora James, the founder and creative director of Brother Vellies, is one to follow for many reasons — the most obvious being her interesting personal style and a glimpse behind the scenes of her inspiring footwear brand.
You’ll often find James, who is a former model, sporting hippie maxi dresses, printed kaftans and plenty of denim with her Brother Vellies feather-trimmed boots and sturdy platform sandals — so the fashion quotient of her account is undeniably strong.
But James is also a passionate advocate for sustainability, feminism and women’s rights, so her account also has an invaluable educational element to it.
When we allow our standards of beauty to blossom and become more inclusive, the concept of beauty will – by nature – become a feminist manifesto.
“When we allow our standards of beauty to blossom and become more inclusive, the concept of beauty will – by nature – become a feminist manifesto,” reads a note she shared on her feed, alongside thoughts on how fashion needs to be held accountable for workers’ conditions, how women are shaped by their culture and how she is striving to support artisans in Africa by working with workshops across the continent to produce her Brother Vellies footwear collections.
Auroras’s brand account, @brothervellies is also definitely worth a follow.
