shoe persona to follow.

Turkish designers Merve and Beste Manastir build their accessories label Manu Atelier out of a love for craftsmanship and modern design. Working alongside their father, a leather craftsman, from an atelier in their home of Istanbul, the Manastir sisters started by dreaming up trendy handbag designs while their father cut every single pattern by hand.

The ‘Pristine,’ a color-block cross-body style shaped like a camera bag, was one of their very first hits and many have since followed, from vintage-inspired cylinder bags to mini totes.

It was the kind of quick-fire success story that rarely happens in the industry and gave the Manastir sisters room to dream bigger: One year ago they expanded their universe with a brand new shoe collection that was received with even more enthusiasm. The shoes are made in Italy by a local craftsman that shares similar values to the sisters’ father; they have the same handmade, luxurious feel as the bags; and feature trendy, highly-photogenic designs that both the Internet and major retailers like Selfridges or Moda Operandi, embraced straight away. Their flair for square-toe boots, curved heels and geometric patterns all stand out and inspire a legion of stylish women – dubbed #ManusPeople on Instagram – to buy into the collections.

Their Instagram account is definitely worth a follow to get acquainted with the sisters’ success story, how they’re keeping it in the family and how they, alongside their colorful group of #ManusPeople, style their shoes — most often by way of loose tailoring, high-rise denim and plenty of cool, oversized trenches.
