The world is finally pressing the stop button on lockdowns and there’s a real appetite for storing away the slippers in favour of glamour, fun and all things statement – they’re calling it the return of the roaring ’20s after all.
In the shoe world, this means that heels, sparkle and decadence are back and there’s a host of fresh names, offering the kind of feel-good, extravagant shoes everyone is craving these days.
One of them is Zarqua, an accessories brand based in Tbilisi, Georgia by the former model Nina Zarqua, who quit the catwalk in 2016 to pursue her lifelong dream of being a designer.
Since then she has built a fantasy world around her label which is all about high shine, sparkle and just the right amount of kitch: Think boots and loafers with chunky pearl chains and exaggerated square toes; feather-trimmed mules; and glossy leather or animal print loafers. In other words these are the party shoes you’ll want to lift your mood and get you excited about dressing up again.
A number of celebrities and online personalities who are partial to a shoe statement – from Kendall Jenner to Katy Perry – have already given the brand a thumbs of approval, having been spotted in some of its most eye-catching styles like a pair of lime green ankle boots.
Before taking the plunge, it’s always worth getting better acquainted with the brand on its Instagram feed and experiencing the happy explosion of bright colour, feathers and extra large crystals that happens on its shoes, in an array of images usually set against beautiful natural backdrops.
Prices for the shoes range from $550 to $950 and you will find them on the brand’s ecommerce site, Farfetch and Threads Styling.
