Silk, glitter and velvet make stay-at-home dressing a stylish form of art.
This winter, slippers come with a heavy dose of glamour that lends at-home dressing a whole new attitude. We’ll probably be spending a lot more time than usual indoors over the festive season, and a pair of crystal-studded house shoes is the perfect antidote to social withdrawal blues – think being extra while you WFH, and party footwear for a season when parties take place in the kitchen.
Leggings, sweats and socked feet have been the gold standard for at-home dressing in recent months. We’re here to say ‘enough’. You don’t have to dress down just because you haven’t gone further than the drive for weeks on end. The glamour slipper strikes the balance between the mood-boosting properties of a glittering stiletto and the comfort of a shearling slide.
As we continue to adapt to our new circumstances, there will always be a place for a pair of fluffy slippers in our at-home wardrobes. As ever, Gucci were ahead of the curve with their fur-lined Princetown loafers, the defining footwear moment of 2015. But the addition of sparkles, embellishments and luxe materials elevate the whole experience of comfort dressing to a new level.
OG Parisian shoe label Roger Vivier is a byword for luxury. Their Hotel Vivier line of sumptuous velvet and crystal-buckled slippers work perfectly in the intimacy of the bedroom, but wouldn’t look out of place in the hottest new restaurant in town. Like making lingerie work beyond the boudoir, these are slippers you could just as easily wear out as in.
Take to opportunity to spend the festive season in a permanent state of chic déshabillé. Pair Miu Miu’s beaded slippers or Simone Rocha’s shearling flats with smart joggers or silk pyjamas and a spritz of perfume, and you’re ready to party – from the comfort of your own living room, of course.
