WORDS BY SANDRA HAGELSTAM
The ABC (that’s Amina Muaddi, Bottega Veneta and Chanel) of this season’s hottest shoes.
With a growing collection of Bottega Veneta and colourful Carrie-like shoes by Amina Muaddi, we were truly heading for the best ever shoe Summer. There was creativity and colour, £700+ beach sandals that we would have happily worn to the fanciest cocktail event, while platforms and clogs were persistently making a comeback to our closets. And then came the unexpected. The world halted and finding shoes to compliment your SS20 wardrobe took, how should we put this, a firm backseat.
However, things are looking up and although we’ve had to watch Spring sneak up on us from the comfort of our couch, we have big plans for a Hot Shoe Summer 2020, these are the 10 shoes that we believe will be the it-shoes of the season.

BOTTEGA VENETA CURVE SANDALS
The newest style from BV comes with a padded cashmere sole (!!) and the comfort is just as good as it sounds. The style comes in true New Bottega fashion in a variety of colours and styles, from the two part sandal to a mule and a even fancier metal sole version. Our favourite is the two part sandal with that delightful twist detail. But don’t worry, your last seasons Bottega mules and square toe sandals continues to be just as hot.

AMINA MUADDI’S HOURGLASS HEELS
As much as we would would love to pick a favourite, Amina Muaddi’s shoes are all better than the next, in their colourful, SATC-like glory. We got into the details on the Begum pump in this previous Shoe of the Month post, but for the Summer all you need to look out for is that signature heel, a cheerful bright colour – we’ll leave the rest up to you.

CHANEL VELCRO SANDALS
The dorky dad sandals is making its way to your feed whether you want it or not, and even us as devoted heel lovers don’t hate this comfortable Summer take on chunky sneakers. Prada made them cool, but Chanel made them chic and that’s when we gave in. The style being difficult to hunt down in the current climate, Proenza Schouler’s Birkenstock collaboration is the next best thing. You’ll find a more indept breakdown in this previous post.

THE ATTICO VENUS LACE-UP PUMPS
Keeping in theme with Amina’s bright sandals, the Italian design duo has been bringing more shoes into their colourful, retro inspired collections and was a firm fashion week favourite. Pair with your shortest mini skirt as soon as the weather allows.

NEW BALANCE SNEAKERS
This unexpected it-shoe snuck up on us early in the Spring and won us over during the quarantine time. Hence it’s now what our Instagram feed is filled with. With a perfect balance of retro, timeless and versatile look, this ‘model off-duty’ shoe will even replace some of the most sought after designer sneakers this Summer.

BOTTEGA VENETA TWIST SANDALS
Although this shoe has been around for a few months, they definitely haven’t got the miles they deserve just yet. Also known as our latest Shoe of the Month, this glam take of a gladiator sandal is a welcome twist (pun intended) on our Summer suits. Flat or heeled, this shoe is only getting started.

THE ROW GINZA SANDALS
This is another shoe that surely owns at least some of its fame to the quarantine Spring. While it’s undoubtedly more than we ever thought we would spend on a flip flop, it’s definitely the most chic kind we’ve seen. Worn by some of our favourite girls on the gram and rumoured to be just as comfortable as they look.

THE MINIMAL SANDALS
We are a bit undecided on who to crown the ‘it’ shoe of this category. There is the bare sandal by The Row that continues as a firm favourite, but other winners in the minimal sandal department include Wandler and Jacquemus and more recently Jil Sander. The key is thin straps and a heel that allows for everyday wear.

PROENZA SCHOULER PADDED SANDALS
One to rival Bottega Veneta’s victorious streak, Proenza’s take on the padded square toe sandals was a bit more unexpected and you’ll now find the ‘Sofia’ sandal in numerous heights and colours. Should the chain anklet style not be exactly your style, the sleeker puffy sandal from the same collection is just as good.

MANOLO BLAHNIK LURUM PUMPS
Although the iconic Lurum pumps by Manolo Blahnik does not class as a seasonal shoe, we’ve seen enough women digg these out of their closet lately to include them in our roundup for SS20. Definitely a style worth investing in as it’s an instant mood-lifter for both sadness and celebration.
