The street fashion of Milan fashion week did not disappoint. The crowd celebrated the return of dressing up in the form of colourful crystal pumps (there was a lot of sparkly revenge heels) but key designers like Prada and Fendi definitely delivered on the shoe front, too. Never has there been so much colour and creativity in not just the shoes but in the over all ambiance of the most stylish guests. Fashion week classics like Amina Muaddi and Bottega Veneta shoes proved once again that viral shoes might be worth the investment, while new season it-shoes like the Prada platform made a notable premiere.

When Miuccia and Raf presented their AW21 collection with a myriad of colourful, printed platforms, we knew these space-age boots would become a hit. The flatform boots comes in numerous colours and lengths, all with that distinct cutout heel. Milan fashion week kicked off a craze that will soon be trending on your feed too.

We’ve spoken a lot about PVC pumps here over the summer and MFW was proof that this style is still going strong. Amina Muaddi has been a big advocate for this fun trend, but you’ll find notable version with shoe specialists like Aquazurra and Mach & Mach, to name a few.

The loafer is another style we love to continue talking about. The best loafers currently come in embellished and decorated, hyped up versions, with a chunky sole and distinctive hardware. We can’t get enough of Roger Vivier’s preppy take on the trend.

Slim, second skin boots are a autumn favourite and something we saw a lot of on the streets of Milan. Creative takes like sandals worn over leather socks was a welcomed surprise detail, while minimalistic faux leather boots is a style that is guaranteed to no go out of fashion any time soon.

Bottega Veneta made the padded mule go viral and we are still appreciating the aftermath of this innovative take. With added comfort and maximum wearability, it’s no wonder that you’ll find numerous designers jumping on this trend.

Fendi’s F heeled mules is the house’s latest shoe release and a hero style from Kim Jones debut collection for the brand. Naturally the new signature style was in high rotation throughout the week, as the style is said to be comfortable too.

Neon and crayon coloured bright boots have grown into a category of their own, mainly through recent design collaborations. Leonie Hanne for Liu Jo (pictured) and Emili Sindlev for Bettina Vermillion are amongst the influencers who lend their colourful style to the brands autumn collections. Paris Texas and more recently Dries Van Noten have some of this seasons most noteworthy styles.

Amina Muaddi’s embellisehed Gilda sandals might just be this years most popular style, but nevertheless a shoe we never grow tired of. This classic style has many variations, whether it comes in shiny metallic or black satin. The skinny diamanté sandal was another firm Milan favourite, worn both day and night.

Wellies continues to be the hit shoe for yet another season, thanks to Bottega Veneta and Chloé, you’ll find heeled versions too. As we learned from 2020, ‘hiking chic’ took over our wardrobes and was not only reserved for practical outings. In Milan, they were paired with dresses and suits, in the same way chunky boots were in 2019.

As we finally enter boots season, the trusted black pull on boots have a noteworthy rival. Brown and earthy owned boots aren’t exactly news, but something worth investing in. Paired best with tonal outfits like pictured, or with a pop on colour.
