Today we celebrate small business Saturday. The day dedicated to smaller and independent brands is still somewhat unknown in Europe, but a celebration we welcome with open arms after the Black Friday hype. While our Follow Friday feature is often dedicated to up and coming designers and brands to add to keep an eye on, we are not the one to pass up on a fabulous opportunity to bring your attention some of the most unique brands to invest in, in between all that Bottega.

GHAZAL

Ghazal was founded in 2019 by Houda L. Ghazal and influenced by the founders French and Moroccan heritage. Think modern silhouettes with contemporary twist, like the perfectly crafted Jackie pumps, the brands lists Audrey Hepburn as one of their muses. Our pick? The Bella sandals in green snakeskin.

YUUL YIE

Korean minimalism at its best, founder Sunyuul Yie focuses on both made-to-order as well as ready to wear shoes. The instantly recognisable colour-block brogues and sculptural heels are signature to the brand, which you can find on retailers like Farfetch and LUISAVIAROMA.

TERHI PÖLKKI

Finnish Terhi Pölkki lauched her brand in 2011 and has since made a name for herself with a signature Scandinavian style. Wearable, weatherproof boots and modern clogs are what she does best, with a promise of comfort. Our pick is the Sivi clogs (which will be big news for next Spring) or the sleek, Ursula ballerina flats.

MARIA LUCA

Maria Luca is a new shoe brand that launched for AW20 with the support of Onwards Luxury Group. Founder and creative director Carlotta De Luca taps into the big jewellery trend with anklet pumps and boots with a muted colour palette that are both wearable and beautiful. This is a brand to watch.

CHELSEA PARIS

Chelsea Paris has already been highlighted here before, but the relaunched brand deserves all the hype. Designer Theresa Ebagua’s vision for luxury footwear perfectly balances her African heritage with European craftsmanship and the outcome is stunningly colourful and uniquely shaped shoes. We love the ‘Kels Retro sandals’ and the minimal ‘Finn’ strappy sandals.

CAMILLA ELPHICK

English Camilla Elphick operates an all female team and has since the launch 2014 grown into a British cult brand that carries both shoes as well as accessories. We are lusting after the brand new, chain ‘Karlie’ boots, but also think the ‘Alicia’ flats are the perfect festive pair.
