The Vacation Edit: Best ‘Barely There’ Sandals

1st February 2020

The next best thing to wearing nothing at all.

We’ve covered how to pack and how to style your way through the vacation season. We are going to take a break from all the virtual sunshine but not before we introduce you to our big, bright holiday edit of the best beach sandals of early 2020. Shot on Maldives at a tucked away gem, Soneva Fushi that ironically host a ‘no news, no shoes’ policy. So we’ve edited it down to the naked, barely there, sleekest toe and thong sandals, as we are bring you the next best thing to wearing nothing at all.

Ease into A. Emery

A. Emery is a fairly new brand that we consider to be our holiday gift from Australia. After their collaboration with Albus Lumen in 2018, retailers picked up the designer and so the styles can now be found on the likes of Matches Fashion and Moda Operandi. Australian designers tend to address us lovers of Scandinavian fashion in surprising ways, which is probably why we consider their muted and warm tones a hit for the sunnier months. To wear these on the beach is just a small part of the story of what A.Emery’s shoes are good for.

Alighieri’s jewelley sandals

We tip that jewelley and especially chain adorned sandals are going to be one of the big, dominating styles of 2020, it’s possible that we have the anklet trend to thank for that. Alighieri, who is known for her poetic jewellery branched into the footwear category in 2019 and is now leading the trend with this eye catching style. As jewellery details is going to grow big this coming season, who’s better to trust than an actual jewellery designer extending her range to shoes?

Shoes Emme Parsonsblazer Helmut Langbikini top and bottom Asceno.

Emme Parsons barely there styles

It’s evident that LA based designer Emme Parsons has strong US following, but we have been catching up in Europe so you’ll now find Emme’s designs on Matches Fashion and Net-a-Porter to name few. Possibly one of the pioneers that revived the flat, modern, minimal sandal trend, Emme’s aesthetics is a whole other Pinterest board as you’ll often see the sandals styled with suits and classic white shirts – combinations that go down well here on 5 inch and up. Thin leather straps, looped in creative ways and presented in the most amazing, Tuscany leather is what gives us the confidence to invest in simple sandals like this.

Shoes Bottega Venetablazer Ascenobag Loewehat Lola Hats.

Bottega Veneta’s snake take

It would not be a 2020 trend edit without mentioning Bottega Veneta at least once. The snake embossed wrap-around sandal is a shoe you’ll see everywhere this year, tied on top of dressy trousers, or simply styled with shorter skirts for that full coil effect. It’s likely to be more of an Instagram shoe than  hit IRL, but oh how we love the idea of turning up in a suit reworked by snake Bottega’s. Much like our advice of the ‘BV Lido mule’ place your order now on these pre-spring sandals as these are selling like hot cakes.

The Row’s ‘Bare’ sandals continued success

This is a style that isn’t new for the season, it’s been making rounds especially in fashion circles for a few strong years. However we could not write a ‘barely there’ sandal story without including this now iconic pair. You’ll find them ruling this category, as they come in every colour imaginable and now also in a flat. A fashion week favourite and quite possibly responsible for starting the whole naked sandal trend.
