Thebe Magugu, the up-and-coming designer from South Africa, has just launched his first shoe offering for the new fall 2021 season.

Magugu, who was the first African designer to win the LVMH Prize in 2019 and has grasped the fashion industry’s attention ever since, is making his debut in the shoe category with a series of statement-making black and white boots.

The body of the boots, which come in ankle and knee-length variations, was designed to resemble a structured loafer. They also feature a very sharp pointed toe – inspired by the elongated shoes pastors wore in his home of Johannesburg – a sculptural heel, and the brand’s signature Sisterhood Emblem, a stainless steel star, adorning the front of the boots.

”It has always been a dream of mine to launch a shoe, and this one is quite special to me as it subtly references my own cultural and spiritual environment. It is also an incredibly versatile shoe in that its proportion both compliments and enhances every type of dress code – from casual to evening,” said Magugu, adding that he also referenced 15th century ‘Cracow’ shoes in his designs, that were eventually deemed offensive because of their extremely long point toes and banned from the court of King Edward IV.

The shoes are available to purchase on the brand’s own website and will also launch on Matches Fashion, which also carries the brand’s sleek tailoring and printed separates, from mid-May.
